Remove grease from molds

To clean grease from moulds using ultrasonic cleaning machines, it is essential to choose a cleaning liquid that is effective in breaking down grease, oils and industrial residues without damaging the mould. Below we share some of the most effective options for ultrasonic mould cleaning:

Alkaline Solutions

Alkaline cleaners are often effective at removing heavy grease and oil. Their high pH helps break down organic grease and oily residue.

These solutions are commonly used in low concentrations (2% to 10%) and, in combination with ultrasound, allow for deep cleaning in mould cavities. Example: Products based on sodium or potassium hydroxide, which work well for resistant metals such as stainless steel.

Solutions with Degreasing Agents

There are specialized ultrasonic degreasing solutions that contain active agents capable of breaking fat and oil bonds without being as aggressive as strong alkaline agents.

You can find products specifically formulated for ultrasonic machines; these are effective for all types of molds and minimize the risk of corrosion. Example: Industrial grade degreasing solutions, which are usually biodegradable and safe for metal alloys.

Biodegradable Solvent-Based Solutions - Remove grease from molds

Solvents of vegetable or biodegradable origin are less aggressive for some moulds that do not tolerate strong alkaline solutions. They are usually used at low concentrations and are ideal for removing light layers of grease, oils and waxes. They work well in more delicate cleaning processes or on sensitive materials. Example: Products based on d-limonene or organic esters.

Neutral Soap Solutions or Mild Detergents

They are less aggressive and, in combination with ultrasound, allow light to moderate grease removal without risk of corrosion or damage to the moulds. Especially recommended for moulds with precise details or materials sensitive to strong chemicals.

Tips for remove grease from molds:

  • Temperature: The effectiveness of ultrasonic cleaning increases when the solution is heated to between 50°C and 60°C. Grease breaks down faster in a warm liquid.
  • Duration: Normally, a 10 to 15 minute cleaning cycle is sufficient, but it will depend on the level of grease build-up in the moulds.

Each type of mold and type of grease may require a specific type of cleaner, so it is ideal to test on a small surface to make sure it does not affect the mold material. In addition, it is essential to rinse the molds well after cleaning and dry them completely to avoid any chemical residue.
